Abstract : Motor Current Signature Analysis has been successfully used in induction machines for broken rotor bars fault diagnosis. The method however does not always achieve good results when the load torque is not constant. For proper results temporal analysis on determined harmonics is needed. In this paper, a novel diagnostic algorithm based on a discrete wavelet transformation and RMS calculation is developed. The method is also examined on laboratory experimental data where rotor broken bar faults are detected successfully

Abstract : Legacy substation automation protocols and architectures typically provided basic functionality for power system automation and were designed to accommodate the technical limitations of the networking technology available for implementation. There has recently been a vast improvement in networking technology that has changed dramatically what is now feasible for power system automation in the substation. Technologies such as switched Ethernet, TCP/IP, high-speed wide area networks, and high-performance low-cost computers are providing capabilities that could barely be imagined when most legacy substation automation protocols were designed. IEC61850 is a part of the International Electro-technical Commission’s (IEC) Technical Committee 57 (TC57) architecture for electric power systems. The model-driven approach of the TC57 standards, including IEC61850, is an innovative approach that requires a new way of thinking about substation automation that will result in very significant improvements in both costs and performance of electric power systems. This paper describes the evolution of communications in Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), the drive for standardization early on in the process, the platform required to fuel this migration, and the issues raised in testing for interoperability among these new devices

Abstract : Load shedding is one of the most important tools to prevent voltage instability. Performing corrective actions on time in order to prevent short time voltage instability need to have protective plans in addition to original equipment protections that supervise whole power network in emergency conditions. These protective plans are called Special Protection System (SPS). In this paper, first of all, a suitable SPS is designed for power system. Next, a mechanism that considers two factors in load shedding, effective loads in voltage instability and low price loads, will be designed for SPS. This method can perform real time by system or manual by operators of power system

Abstract A novel and simple approach for adaptive single pole auto-reclosing is proposed in this paper. The algorithm consists of capturing the faulted phase voltage using 20kHz sampling rate, decomposing it by db8 wavelet packet to attain the coefficients of nodes 257, 259 to 262 and defining an Index, which is obtained from the sum of the coefficients energy of nodes 257, 259 to 262. Finally, by evaluating the value of the Index, the transient, permanent faults and the secondary arc extinction instant can be identified. The significant advantage of the proposed algorithm is that it does not need variant threshold level and therefore its performance is independent of fault location, line parameters and the system operating conditions. Moreover, it can be used in the transmission lines with reactor compensation. The proposed method has been successfully tested under a variety of fault conditions on a 500KV overhead line using PSCAD/EMTDC software. The test results validate the algorithm ability in distinguishing between transient and permanent faults and determining the instant of secondary arc extinction

Abstract : This paper presents the design, analysis and speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous (PMSM) motor with a speed controller to improve the performances of the motor. To reduce torque ripples and improve dynamic performance, a fuzzy controller for permanent magnet synchronous motor drive is presented, which replaces the conventional hysteresis controller. Results of simulation are provided to demonstrate that the proposed drive has quick response performance with a good torque

Abstract : In this paper, a new signal processing approach for finding parameters affect fuel consumption in power plants is proposed. Boiler is a nonlinear, MIMO and time varying system with relatively large time delays and its efficiency changes with time. Many parameters affect boiler’s efficiency in a power plant. Using historical process data of Mashhad power plant, the most probable parameters involve boiler efficiency are discussed. In this case, Studies show that air/fuel ratio and input gas pressure are the most important parameters can change efficiency. An increase in the air/fuel ratio will enhance thermal efficiency. In addition, because of incorrect air/fuel regulation table, the gas pressure affects air/fuel ratio and boiler efficiency

Abstract : Lubricating oil additives (LOAs) are used to enhance the performance of lubricants and functional fluids. Phenolic compounds, 2,6- di-tertiary butyl para-cresol and 2,6-di-tert.- butyl para-cresol (DBPC) known as butylated hydroxy toluene (BHT) used in industrial lubricant oil such as turbine oil, transformer oil, hydraulic oil and machine oil serving as antioxidant inhibitor. The dosage of free phenol in oil is about 55-60 ppm. Oil can inter the waste water through different ways such as Leakage of the lubricant oil in system or washing the generation unit. Phenols are a group of special interest due to their high toxicity and low biodegradability. Because phenol is soluble in water so can transfer from oil to aqueous phase and make it polluted. The removal of phenol from water has been studied by ozone and catalyzed ozonation with titanium oxide. The effectiveness of catalytic degradation of phenol in several pHs was evaluated. Some of the main operating parameters like catalysts and basic pH exerted a positive influence in the ozonation rate. The results of HPLC and UV were used for study of pH and TiO2 catalyst effects in the rate and percentage of degradation. In the ozonation of phenol, the combination of ozone and supported metal oxide catalysts was effective for the removal of total organic carbon (TOC) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). The removal of COD and TOC from water has been studied by ozone and ozonation catalyzed with titanium oxide (TiO2). The variation of TOC and COD removal with ozone has been observed. Effects of the pH and catalyst on TOC and COD degradation have been detected
